Copays & deductibles are deadly. Why do we have them? They make insurance companies money. The truth is, we neither need "cost-sharing" nor insurance companies to have a functional, effective, efficient healthcare system. We could do so, SO much better. Thread from @awgaffney
@awgaffney For decades many health economists (and others) championed cost barriers for medical care on dubious "moral hazard" grounds. This achieved no apparent reduction in national health spending but almost certainly exacerbated misery and worsened health & health inequities.
